Throughout this project I developed on the three trends I created for AW17/18; Functionality, Sustainability and Minimalism.
Fucntionality looks at technical textiles, drawing guidance from commuter lifestyle and incorporating the textiles to provide the wearer with garments that transition them throughout their day with ease, comfort and safety. Designing garments that can be worn to the office but also enhance your journey to and from work, reducing the need to carry different clothing and more bags.
Sustainability develops using what is considered to be waste and using patchworking to reinvent it into a statement, using sharp, abstract imagery and quotes from Shakespeare's plays that resonated with current events. The asthetic of this range is derived from styles of the Elizabethan Era, shaken with a modern twist.
Minimalism looks at the amount of garments that people buy and the percentage of these that are commonly worn. Creating a modular collection with interchangable panels which can be replaced without the need to buy an entirely new garment, taking inspiration from the Elizabethan dresses with changable sleeves, collars and foreparts. This concept enables the consumer to change the fit and silhouette of the garments depending on their personal style.
I have then devloped the brand Gemma Bowker, looking at who my brand is aimed at, what my brand ethos is, and devloping a brand identity.
